There is no argument that the human need to drink safe drinking water and we
believe it is the right of a person. On the other hand the workers who contributed to
the national economy as well as we mentioned most of the victims are young
female workers and they are the future mothers of this country so it is a social
responsibility to find an immediate answer to this overwhelming problem and even
now we feel it is late .Therefore we believe to support to win this situation i for
better tomorrow so it is a time need
Water pollution and safe drinking water problem is a critical problem in Sri Lanka
especially in and around the industrial areas especially the Free Trade Zones where
there is a cluster of factories existed The location we have selected is facing this
problem from longer time but could not solve up to now and there are ample of
evident this situation lead to critical kidney diseases and other complications but
they have no voice because the authorities who have a preview of this specific area
declared that it was followed all the local and international standards before they
release this wastewater .
Any way large number of factory workers as well as the boarding house owners
living here using bottled water for drinking become an unbearable cost for them
but could not prove scientifically that their water sources get contaminated because
of this factory wastewater which become overwhelming problem
We RED initiated a project with a support from Women fund Asia and involving
with number of activities including a research to find how this water has
contaminated
Also there are number of parallel activities to have pocket meetings at 04
Gramaseva divisions to make aware the residents in these areas and also collect the
information for this propose research
After all RED is going to discuss with the authorities for the further possible
arrangements of Drinking water for the zonal workers including campaign
activities
