On behalf of the Revolutionary Existence for Human Development (RED), it is with immense pride and a profound sense of responsibility that we share the successful inauguration of our third public drinking water tap, located in Amandoluwa Jayawardanapura. This initiative, carried out under our flagship “Strengthen Feminist Movement (SFM) 2025–2026” project, was officially opened on Saturday, 4 April 2026, at 11:30 a.m. , in the presence of gathering of community members, Free Trade Zone (FTZ) workers, and RED staff.
The facility was declared open and formally handed over to the FTZ workers and local residents by Executive Directress Ms. Chandra Devanarayana, alongside senior RED personnel. This milestone is not merely an infrastructure project—it is a reaffirmation of our core belief that clean drinking water is a fundamental human right, and that corporate social responsibility must translate into tangible, community-driven action.
Prior all this installations, RED conducted comprehensive research in 2024 on access to drinking water across the Free Trade Zone area. This study was designed to identify critical gaps in water availability and sanitation, ensuring that every intervention we undertake is data-driven, context-sensitive, and targeted toward the communities most in need. The findings from this research will directly guide the expansion of our future initiatives, reinforcing RED’s long-term dedication to upholding the right to clean water for all workers and residents.
What makes this achievement particularly meaningful is its deep connection to women’s empowerment. By providing a reliable, safe, and locally accessible water source and community leadership. We firmly believe that access to basic infrastructure is inseparable from the struggle for gender justice.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Women Fund Asia (WFA) for their invaluable solidarity, trust, and financial support, without which this project would not have been possible. Their partnership has been instrumental in turning vision into reality.
Looking ahead, RED has already begun planning for the installation of an additional drinking water tap in a neighboring area. This next phase will extend the same benefits to more working-class communities and residents, ensuring that no one is left behind.
We also wish to express our highest appreciation to the residents, working women, and young girls of Amandoluwa Jayawardanapura, who not only organized the event but also developed a sustainable plan for the ongoing maintenance and governance of the water tap. Their leadership and ownership of this project are exactly what community-driven development should look like.
