In a powerful demonstration of its corporate social responsibility, the Revolutionary Existence for Human Development (RED) has reaffirmed its commitment to clean drinking water as a fundamental human right. Parallel to the 115th International Women’s Day commemorations, RED officially opened a new public drinking water tap in the Kovinna area, Andiambalama. The facility was declared open and handed over to Free Trade Zone workers and residents by Executive Directress Ms. Chandra Devanarayana, alongside senior RED staff.
Established under the “Strengthen Feminist Movement (SFM) 2025–2026” project, the initiative directly addresses the intersection of basic infrastructure and women’s empowerment. By providing a reliable local water source, RED alleviates the daily burden traditionally placed on women for water collection, while improving sanitation and supporting community dignity. During the ceremony, an official representative expressed profound gratitude to the Women Fund Asia (WFA) for their invaluable solidarity and support, which was instrumental in making the project possible. Looking ahead, RED has announced plans to install two additional water taps in neighboring areas, extending these benefits to more working-class communities.
In connection to this project, the RED has conducted comprehensive research on access to drinking water in the Free Trade Zone area. This study aims to identify critical gaps in water availability and sanitation, ensuring that future interventions are data-driven and effectively target the communities most in need. The findings will guide the expansion of their initiatives, reinforcing RED’s dedication to upholding the fundamental right to clean water for all workers and residents.
